DTF transfers work on almost every fabric that can handle heat. While DTG only works reliably on cotton, DTF adheres to virtually any fabric.
Fabric Settings
- Cotton: 305–325°F | 12–15 sec | Medium-firm pressure
- Polyester: 285–300°F | 10–12 sec | Medium pressure (lower temp prevents dye migration)
- 50/50 Blend: 295–310°F | 12 sec | Medium pressure
- Nylon: 275–290°F | 8–10 sec | Light-medium pressure (very heat sensitive — test first)
- Denim: 310–325°F | 15–18 sec | Firm pressure
- Canvas and Bags: 310–325°F | 15–18 sec | Firm pressure
- Dri-Fit / Performance: 280–300°F | 10–12 sec | Medium pressure
The Polyester Challenge — Dye Migration
When polyester gets hot, fabric dyes can bleed through the transfer causing discoloration on bright colors. Fix: lower temperature to 285–295°F, reduce time to 10 seconds, use cold peel, press once and skip re-press.
What DTF Cannot Print On
- Waterproof or DWR-coated fabrics
- Silicone-treated fabrics
- Very low-melt synthetics
- Heavily textured fabrics like terry cloth
